Mind Blowing thoughts

“We think our decisions are conscious,” said neuroscientist John-Dylan Haynes at the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience in Berlin, who is pioneering this research. “But these data show that consciousness is just the tip of the iceberg. This doesn’t rule out free will, but it does make it implausible.”

Came across this earlier. The possible conclusions of some research in the cognitive field will change the subject of philosophy for sure and probably the world. This is not an exaggeration.

In a nutshell the research indicates that our brains come to any given decision a full 10 seconds before we are consciously aware of said dexision.

Why is this so Earth shattering? – because it really puts a huge hole in the whole free will thing. This in turn would completely change many of our most basic assumptions about just about everything. Can a person be lazy if he has no say in the laziness or on a more serious note can someone be guilty of a crime that there brain has decided to commit leaving the conscious process out of the loop?

To extend this a little, the only time that we possibly have any imput is if things outside of us change dramatically enough in the 10 seconds from the subconscious decision prior to conscious awareness.

Well, 10 seconds ago I must have decided to wrap up this post.
