Abstraction Refraction and Reflection

Some photographers want to take an impression of reality judging success by how close to reality their image is. Others see the camera as a tool that is part of the process of making interesting or emotionally charged images that may have very little to do with any objective reality.

Both approaches interest me and I certainly enjoy the technical demands of the former but I came to photography via art so the latter is closer to my true nature.

I have always had a liking for the abstract, believing that it offers more possibilities than the purely representative and two things that help to take the representative into the abstract realm are reflection and refraction hence my borderline obsession with glass (the more flawed the better) and mirrors.

Anyway, here are three photographs of a wine glass, reading glasses and a glass vase. The backlighting is provided by our television (Cartoon Network if you must know.)
