Without it, no matter what lens you have, it won’t help.

Faces

Back of heads are not terribly engaging.

I think we are so in tuned to seeing faces, we don’t realize it.

We do want to see faces of athletes whenever possible.

Grimacing faces add to the drama and excitement.

Unfortunately some athletes hardly show any emotions even when they win.

Faces in sports can be the difference between a good picture and a great picture.


One thing that is not in this article (well only a little bit) is f-stop this, ISO that and flash 1/64. Much more on the real common sense stuff that comes straight after get the shot as un-blurry as possible – unless you are panning of course. Obvious stuff that can be forgotten such as try to get the ball/puck/shuttlecock etc in picture, makes for a much stronger shot.
