10 Annoying Habits of a Geeky Spouse

!0 Annoying Habits of a Geeky Spouse

Here’s a thing, I have been under the assumption, for the last 10 years at least, that I am a geek but apparently I was wrong.

Here is the list of things, according to the Wired post that define a geek with a thought from me :

1. Punning.
People who indulge in this should be shunned – no exceptions.

2. Using “frak,” or Klingon, or both, instead of regular swear words.
See 1. only more so. Seriously this one drives me absolutely nuts. if you want to say or write f*%$ then just say or write f*%$.

3. Weird or over-the-top ways of celebrating mainstream holidays
Not even close, much more likely not to even realize they are occurring.

4. Dissecting movies.
OK sometimes guilty of this one but by no means compulsive about it.

5. Wearing obscurely geeky T-shirts to “normal” places.
Never, old beaten up leather flip flops maybe (see pic at top of page) but never geeky T-shirts.

6. Requiring extra room in the house for geeky things
Not really, I have my office (broom cupboard no windows) and a very small studio but they are for work.

7. Geeky toys and decorations can be hard to explain to kids.
Not my thing (kids that is)

8. Looking up information while a discussion/argument is still in progress
Normally do this after the discussion has finished then spring the “I was right” line when the adversary least expects it. More satisfying.

9. Needing to watch certain TV shows ASAP to avoid spoilers.
You are kidding right?

10. Geeky projects that take over the house and whole weekends.
Nope, usually either vegging, cleaning or catching up on work.

Seriously though, I have a science degree and spend at least 12 hours a day sitting at my double monitored desktop with my laptop set off to the side and my spare, ready to go computer, 3 feet away in case the other two die at the same time. I have multiple printers and scanners networked and ready to go. Behind me is my Nikon DSLR with tethering cable and a bag full of accessories.

I design websites, blog, and take and process digital photographs with a camera that doesn’t fit in my pocket and I know for a fact that I am not a nerd.

Guess that we geeks are pretty hard to stereotype.
