New really irritating web advertising
This must be just about the most bizarre on line revenue generating model I’ve seen yet. This site aggregates news i.e. it just posts the first paragraph of a story and a link to the original story.
Most visits would, I guess come from Twitter or other social network type sites. No original content, well, that is OK I use sites that do nothing but aggregate myself but this operation insists on giving the viewer 5 seconds before plastering a full page add across the browser that the user then has to find out how to close.
Way to go, not only is another click required to get to the required article (acceptable just) but then more clicks to close down the advertising. Don’t know who sold them on this idea but it is a dud on all levels. Plenty of other sites doing what they are doing faster, better and without cutting the viewer off mid sentence.
Another minor irritant – they use a .org domain and they know that .org is used to signify non/not for profit. Maybe not as rigid as it used to be but many still trust .orgs much more than they do coms or nets.
Best part though is the domain name heave-ho.org . I expect that they will be getting the big heave-ho unless they change their revenue generation model. Seriously though, I wish them no harm and I do hope they change before they fail.
