Lesser Known Wingnuts – Gunny Bob Newman
This is a when I can be bothered series that aims to give the lesser known idiots a few minutes in the spotlight. It is amazing just how few talk radio hosts have secured their place in the national conscious and, to be serious for a moment, it is very important that the American people at large realize that the likes of Limbaugh, Beck and Savage are not just individuals working in isolation but that they represent the top of a pyramid of thousands working hard to be the next Rush.
Well back to today’s subject, with his ridiculous moniker you wouldn’t expect this guy to be mainstream and he most certainly isn’t. A fully paid up member of the 28 percenters, conditions of membership include undying support for Sarah Palin, Glen Beck and stupid unfocused protesting. Protesting which would be more focused if they thought they could get away with stating there real gripe, that is that there is a black family in the Whitehouse. Anyone see any non whites at the protests that took place on tax paid for lawns across the country yesterday? Sorry, I digress.
At least Newman has the decency to let us know that we are dealing with a nutter right up front, I mean, placing Gunny at the front of your name is a bit of a giveaway. Other than tattooing “Loon” on his forhead I don’t think that he could have been more helpful. Wonder what his position on the 2nd amendment is. Kidding, these peoples views are like a cable package deal, full set or nothing – an a la carte approach is definitely not welcome and not just because it is furrin sounding.
Discussing the breakup of an alleged terrorist plot to attack U.S. soldiers at New Jersey’s Fort Dix, Newsradio 850 KOA host “Gunny” Bob Newman said on his May 8 show that “every Muslim immigrant to America who holds a green card, a visa, or who is a naturalized citizen [should] be required by law to wear a GPS tracking bracelet at all times,” and that the government should “bug their places of work and their residences” and monitor “[a]ll mosques and community centers.” Newman added, “If they don’t like the idea, or if they refuse, throw their asses out of this country.”

since this little outburst three advertisers have publicly dissociated themselves from Newman’s remarks and requested that there spots be cancelled.
The companies, Excel Roofing, Ralph Schomp Automotive and Three Tomatoes Catering, asked that the ads run in different time slots on KOA after being petitioned by ProgressNowAction, an political action group in Denver.
As with all wingnut Talk show hosts Newman is an equal opportunity bigot, he recently made a statement about gays in the military that beggar’s belief – here is a part of it
This doesn’t bother Barack Obama. It doesn’t faze him in the least. He doesn’t care if a soldier or a Marine or a SEAL or what have you gets HIV, becomes HIV-positive, and then develops AIDS and dies because he happened to get a transfusion from an, say, an openly gay person with a very active sexual, open lifestyle.
These people really need to read something other than each others books.

The low rent gabber did get a minor boost when Olbermann gave him the 3rd place spot in his World’s worst feature but I suspect that it will take more than this to boost Gunny up the talk divisions.
