Google Profiles
Here is something that I didn’t know. Google now lets you create a profile. The more detail entered the higher up in a search for your name your page comes. This is probably positioning to get into the social networking thing, apparently there are similarities between the Google offering and Facebook.
Unfortunately my really unimaginative parents, named Johnson decided to give me the name Steve. Great if I were on the run not so great if I need to promote myself or my business. There are famous Steve Johnson’s in just about every field imaginable from Chicago Times writers and blogger Steve Johnson, to music critic Steve Johnson to digital photographer Steve Johnson to professional soccer player Steve Johnson. The number of Steve Johnson’s involved in web design and creative type stuff is just mind boggling. Remember the town in Blazing Saddles where everyone was called Johnson, now imagine that their first names were all Steve, Stephanie, Stephen, Steven, Stevie, Stefan, Stefano. Incidentally the French equivalent is Etteine – don’t ask me how.
If I spend the next week lovingly crafting my Google profile I could possible get on about page ten of the Google machine. To be honest I do not know what page I currently first appear on, probably somewhere in the hundreds.
