Health Care Reform House Debate
In a few years historians will watch the tape of this and wonder jusy how the GOP lasted so long. Every argument they put forward would get laughed out of a debating forum for 8 year olds.

Quick thoughts about the House Health Care Debate
It passed, around 30 Dems voted against and one Republican CAO (LA) voted for. Suspect that he is in for an umm “interesting” few days.
Stupak amendment was more interesting, this horrible amendment which used women’s rights as a bargaining chip was passed with 64 Dems voting for. That is a lot of primary challenges to organize but it must be done. Dems who would vote for this amendment do not belong in the party. I support the idea of a big tent but not one that is big enough to risk rolling back any human rights legislation.
Don’t know how it came to pass that Stupak put his name to this but I suspect that he is now finished politically, hope it was worth it for him. Stupak is also a member of the NRA so expect a move towards compulsory concealed weapon carrying.
The difference between the two sides was huge, the Dems were interested in debating the issues and making their points through good argument, the Neo Brutalist GOP – not so much.
Kids and babies were used by props by both sides – note to politicians, please don’t do that, it is cheesy, obvious and only manipulates the terminally stupid. In other words it benefits the GOP.
Overall, a muted yay, it passed but so many Dems voting with Stupak really leaves a bad taste even though the amendment is unlikely to see the light of day.As for the GOP, they continue to hurtle towards total irrelevance.
