Freedom’s Just Another Word…..

There can only be ‘Freedom from something and f’reedom to something. Freedom as abstract e.g. “I fight for freedom” is nonsensical.

From the moment we are born we cannot be completely free, we need food, air, but we also need other stuff like love, friendship, fulfillment, a sense of direction etc. All of these are wonderful but they stand in direct opposition to freedom as they all carry obligations and if obligated one cannot be free. It is a tradeoff most of us make willingly, often without conscious thought.

It is only those who do not consider these things that spend time speaking about and writing about freedom as if it were a great thing in itself. It is not, it is meaningless.

So the next time a RWNJ or Teabagger tells you he or she is for freedom ask them to be more specific without saying either freedom from x or freedom to y and see what happens..

as the song says, “Freedom’s just another word for nothing left to lose…”
