This is Odd.. Mary Landrieu US Senator …

…allegedly broke campaign rules by donating a hefty chunk of change $25k give or take… to the Treasury. apparently this violates campaign rules.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) are singularly unimpressed and are pressing the matter.

This type of payment is rare but not unheard of according to the TPM piece. I cannot think of any reason that a candidate would give donated cash to the treasury, that just seems weird. If a contribution is iffy, the rules are that the money gets returned to the donor.

Asked about the donation Monday by TPMmuckraker, Marc Elias, a lawyer for the campaign, declined to explain it, citing the need to avoid compromising the privacy of the original donor from whom the campaign received it. Elias described the donation as “routine.”

But several experts took issue with that. One veteran Washington campaign-finance lawyer called Elias’s claim “bullshit.”

Whatever the ins and outs of this are, anything that gives a member of the Landrieu political family indigestion is fine by me.
