Psalm 108:9 -

Let his days be few and let another take his office.

There are minor variations on this depending upon the version of the Bible.

This Bible verse is now turning up on bumper stickers, clothing and other things owned by Right Wing Nut Jobs. When challenged they invariably say that the verse is not a call for the death of the person in question, that the liberals are taking the whole thing out of context.

Well, here is some context, in the form of the verses that immediately follow 108:9

8May his days be few;

may another take his place of leadership.

9May his children be fatherless

and his wife a widow.

10May his children be wandering beggars;

may they be drivend from their ruined homes.

11May a creditor seize all he has;

may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor.

12May no one extend kindness to him

or take pity on his fatherless children.

13May his descendants be cut off,

their names blotted out from the next generation.

14May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord;

Not much ambiguity there.The vicious loony tunes are at best asking God to take Obama out or at worse hoping that someone will do the job on God’s behalf. I would be willing to bet my last dollar that everyone of these cowardly thugs knows not only verse 9 but also verses 10 through 14 by whatever they have in place of a heart.

Two Different Reactions from Online Distributors

Items have been appearing on the Cafepress website with Psalm 108:9 on them. apparently Cafepress agreed to withdraw said items but today it appears that they have gone back on that decision and are again happy to sell goods that express the desire that the president of the USA be killed. I would love to know the back story behind that reversal.

We initially pulled the Psalm 109:8 content from our products today because broader media dialog indicated that these designs potentially suggested violence towards the president. Based on current public discourse and further review of the actual content, we have determined that it is fair political commentary and we are in the process of reinstating this merchandise. As with all of our content, these designs will continue to be reviewed and if at any time their meaning is construed as advocating violence we will revisit our decision.

This was taken from an email sent out by Cafepress. The original and much more can be found here:

This just doesn’t add up at all – obviously the phrase advocates violence especially when considered in context – what is cafepresses game here?

Their main competitors, Zazzle, withdrew the merchandise and as of now haven’t gone back on that decision.

There is a call to boycott Cafepress and I see no reason to oppose this call. From everything I’ve heard Zazzle are a much better company to do business with anyway.

Don’t know who comes out of this saga worse, the cowardly viscious right wing thugs who will proudly wear the stuff or Cafepress for not only selling it but for not even bothering to think up a half decent rationale for not pulling the plug.
