Happy Demise of the Washington Times

The Washington Times is shedding 40 jobs over the next couple of months

On an individual level this type of notice is tough, working and not knowing whether your name is on the list is hard as are the pressures of being unemployed at any time let alone in this economy. On a more macro level this is potentially very good news, the Washington Times is a rag that pushes an agenda by any means necessary. sure that is by no means unusual, I push an agenda here every day of the week.

Happy Demise of the Washington Times

I will be selective and pick subjects and writings that support my point of view and I will view facts through the prism of a center left life. One thing I will not do is knowingly state something as fact that I know isn’t. The Washington Times has no such scruples.

Here is an example of a Washington Times invented story, not the worst or the most famous just the first that I came across. The hacks that wrote this piece either decided or were told to produce a POTUS snubs Republicans story and that is what they did regardless of the facts.

Happy Demise of the Washington Times

This leads on to the more important subject of respectability and authority. The Washington Times has that veneer , after all it has the words Washington and the word Times in its title. It is this that is the real problem as it skews perception of where the country’s center is way to the right and, in America, reality tends to follow perception very quickly. There is no left of center equivalent of the Washington Times, the teabaggers may scream (they do that a lot) that the Washington Post and the New york Times are left wing rags and way more extreme. Thirty minutes research will, of course prove this to be complete and utter crap. Whether the two aforementioned publications are even left of center is debatable. There are other publications but non with the mainstream, i.e. non politically obsessed, impression of authority and respectability.

A quick note about another newspaper that may have been instrumental in the downfall of the Times, the Washington Examiner, is required here. As far as I know it is a freeby, paid for by advertising, that is now going national. It is owned by the same people as the Weekly Standard, home of the always wrong all the time Billy Kristol and other assorted cowards neocons.
