Poster Project Latest 2
Saturday, August 23rd, 2008Poster project latest
Saturday, August 23rd, 2008Here is the first of three posters currently at the printers. All the posters consist of a single photo with the Indiana dunes as a part. These will be sold at Lifestyles, Lincoln Way, Valparaiso, IN and Marquette Perk, Miller Beach IN.
All posters are 16″ x 12″
Will hopefully have them in both outlets by the beginning of September (2008).
More on posters
Sunday, August 10th, 2008More on the poster saga.
The posters arrived from the printers on Friday. The quality of the black and white ones was superb, flawless unfortunately the same couldn’t be said for the color ones. The latter were just about acceptable for the price but all showed very faint parallel lines common to a home printer that isn’t calibrated properly. But as stated I cannot praise the quality of the monochrome ones more highly.
Consequently I am hoping that the BW ones really sell well and that we can move over to all black and white. I prefer designing in mono anyway.
I spent all Friday evening rolling and sleeving the posters, it is not the most exciting job in the world but if I had to do it for 4 hours a day I wouldn’t complain! - saying that if there was 4 hours packaging a day needed I would employ someone else to do it.
The owner of the Marquette Perk (corner of Shelby and Locust) are now stocked up with 20 of each design and the owner is going to purchase frames for display over the weekend. I am looking forward to seeing what he does with them. The space contains work by half a dozen local artists and crafters.
So, One retailer down, tens to go, hopefully the next update will consist of news of both our first sales and our next outlet.
More poster project stuff
Thursday, August 7th, 2008One thing that I never really accounted for at the beginning of this project/distraction - the amount of time that I would spend rolling up posters very tightly and putting them in condom like packets.
The latest batch of seven designs have left the printers and are now wending their way from NY to Indiana. Amazing how adictive UPS tracking can become. I think that these will all arrive here on Friday afternoon which means that I will be rolling and bagging until late into the night for an early morning Saturday delivery.
Didn’t do the web site today, still undecided on one or two minor details.
Another poster update
Wednesday, August 6th, 2008Today is web site day, I’ve already purchased the domain stevejohnsonposters.com and placed a holding page. today I will start to build the site. I am not going to sell the posters online yet.
This may happen further down the line when the design inventory and sales volume has grown a lot.
The site will have three several purposes, to advertise to potential retailers, list retailers currently carrrying stock and to offer custom designs at budget rates. I am trying to work up a model where the design is relatively cheap but the minimum order is quite high e.g. around 200.
The site will also brand the operation. I am not setting this up under the g2/go2graphics umbrella because I feel that the branding needs to be very different and unique.
Hopefully I will have a follow up post to this in a day or two with a link to the new web site.
