Minimalist Cooking – Kick the Marketers Out of the Kitchen

This is an article that I wrote for syndication and I ‘ve decided to post it here as it does have a very definite political edge. If you want to post this article on your own blog feel free but it must be posted as is including the links at the end. No need for a byline or a link back here but if you drop a comment you’ll get a back link out of the deal.

Minimalist cooking is about simplicity. It is about reducing everything from ingredient lists, shopping trips, anxiety, social fears and more.It is about not letting these tyrannies and the greatest overarching tyrant of all, the marketer, from sucking the lifeblood out of something that should be life affirming, a source of great fulfillment and above all else fun. Remember that it is the marketer who tells you that you have to be the provider of perfection at the dinner table otherwise you are a bad parent, a failure, someone who should be shunned by strangers and disowned by your children. Haven’t got that expensive spice in the rack? Well, you’ll just have to lose a couple of hours driving to the store, guzzling gas, polluting the planet, raising your blood pressure and exhausting yourself to the point where you will enjoy neither the cooking, the eating or the socializing that should all be the highlights of a day. Alright, that was a little over the top but the point is important. We really do need to get out from under the Marketer, he is not our friend. Read more…

Time for Harry Reid to Step Down

The time has come for Harry Reid to give up his position as Senate Majority Leader. His insipid and weak performance to date would be enough to justify his resignation but that is not the the primary reason for this call. The primary reason is his massive conflict of interests. Even by normal senate standards Reid is compromised to the point where he has to act against the best interests of both the party and the American electorate.

Harry is up for a very tough reelection battle in his home state of Nevada this cycle. To win this battle he is going to need an abundance of cash and goodwill. Here is the particular swamp that Reid tops up his campaign war chest from: These lists are based on 2005 – 2010 amounts.

MA Special Election – Instant Thoughts

Here are my initial, ill considered and unsubstantiated thoughts about yesterdays election.

The Bad:
Coakley was an abysmal candidate. Their is absolutely no excuse for the complacency that she showed. She may have received bad advice but that doesn’t matter, it was her candidacy. She now has to live with the consequences of her defeat and I suspect that won’t be pleasant.

Saying that, it is becoming apparent that Tim Keane is not an effective DNC Chair. Howard Dean had a definite plan for revitalizing the Democratic party and was an extremely effective organizer. The impression with Keane is one of drift.

Not many are saying this but I think that the media really does have to take a long hard look at itself. They are allowing fascism to flourish due to their insistence on covering everything as equal, a substantial well thought out position is given exactly the same weight as a wacko pulled out of someones rear end a minute before airtime. I am not talking about Fox News here – they are a known quantity and people make the required allowances, The networks and especially CNN are the big offenders.

Who would Jesus Shoot?

In the grand scheme of things this story is not that big a deal but it does skirt the edges of batshit crazy.

A Michigan supplier of sights for high-powered rifles has long been etching subtle references to Jesus on equipment it sells to the US military, possibly in contravention of army regulations that forbid religious proselytization.

Raw Story

The comany in question is Trijicon Inc., of Wixom, Michigan.
