Fastbrowsersearch Malware Removal

Removing Fastbrowsersearch From firefox

I put this note up on my other techy type blog and it is getting a lot of traffic via Yahoo. (I was obviously not the only teed off person.)  Said blog is new and not on Google yet so I figured I’d post it here. I really want to do what ever I can to dent these people’s profit:

I’d hunted  for some time to find a way to crush  the Fastbrowsersearch malware that was forcing my Firefox browser to default to a page with loads of ads above the legitimate Google search that I wanted. It also killed the function that pointed the browser to the top site in Google for any given search term entered in the address bar.

I do realize that I am probably the last person in the universe to solve this problem but I figured that I’d post this just in case this is irritating the crap out of others.

 Fastbrowsersearch Malware Removal

Anyway, here is the solution

(1) Check for the unistall program in folder C:\Program Files\FBrowser
(2) Type ‘about:config’ in firefox address bar and filter contents with keyword ‘fast’
(3) right click on each value instance found and select to ‘reset’
(4) Close and restart your browser, hopefully its gone.

A humorous scary message wil lbe thrown up by Firefox – Ignore it.

Fastbrowsersearch is just a really sleazy way for a company to increase it’s money making clicks. May the people who came up with this either at least allow the user to reset their browser through the normal Firefox interface or  be forced to use Internet Explorer for the rest of eternity

Twittering Tiger

Tiger Woods -Insert you favorite double entendre here

I don’t normally do stuff like this but the Tiger Wood’s story is getting stranger by the day and I need a break from teabag bashing and climate change. I am wary of treading on the Huffington Post’s toes though as they are mounting a serious challenge to the National Enquirer in the sensationalism stakes.  Whatever it takes to pay the bills I suppose.

 Twittering Tiger

I am not sure whether the count is currently running at three, four or five. My favorite comment on Twitter so far:

Put them all together and it looks as if Woods is working his way through the Spice girls

That was slightly paraphrased as I’m quoting it from memory. I can’t remember who actually made the post so no hat tip either.

 Twittering Tiger

Wonder if their was an interesting back story here. Kidding of course…….

MSNBC conflict of interest web article

MSNBC writer just happens to use Comcast as example of company wronged by Twitter

Here is a post on the Big Money section of the MSNBC web site. which claims to be about companies that make the best use of Twitter. It rambles on for a bit about how they chose 12 companies to focus on setting up an expectation of graphs and numbers and other such wonkish delights.

MSNBC conflict of interest web article

The numbers never really appear but eventually we get a section on Twitters recommended user function, where Twitter are, in effect, giving their seal of approval to certain accounts and the apparently arbitrary nature of the whole process. OK, the writer may have a point, addition to the list can literally make a seven figure difference in the amount of followers that a company or individual will garner. Still pretty wonkish stuff.

But then we get to this:
