I’m Starting to Freak Out

Is the title of thisĀ Great piece of quality writing

on the subject of homelessness. These are the opening paragraphs but please go read the rest, it is chilling and moving;

So I’m driving along this afternoon, when I hear on the local talk radio about how global warming has been “debunked,” then some caller bitches about the Democrats in Congress using health care money to give out “free abortions,” and how Democrats are thus the ones responsible for wrecking the economy by depriving it of more consumers.

I’m so pissed off I nearly hit a homeless guy. I recovered myself, but then nearly hit another homeless guy. I stopped at a light, confused, watched the street teem with wandering, scuffed-looking people.

just in case you are still here and not over at Daily Kos reading the full piece here are a couple of comments that are worth repeating:

US Chamber of Commerce – Influence Fadin…

We can hope

Excellent piece about the diminishing power of the US Chamber of Commerce:

Today, with over 300 staff and an annual budget well over $150 million, the Chamber is one of the most powerful lobbies in Washington. As of late October, they had already spent $65 million this year lobbying against the key pieces of the Democratic policy agenda, especially health reform, cap-and-trade and the Employee Free Choice Act.

(If you have an account please rec the diary on DKos – it is in danger of fading into obscurity)

There are purely business lobbying shops such as big pharma or the insurance industry then there are the ones that come with a core philosophy. The Chamber is probably second only to the NRA in the latter category.. The more damage that we inflict on these ones the more the US will benefit.

Part of the Chambers power comes from the perception of it’s reach. Recently it has come to light the it’s membership is much much smaller than claimed. This is very good for us and very bad for the Chamber. I also happen to think that it is very good for business but that is a post for another day.

Tancredo throws his toys

and Markos (Daily Kos owner) gives an object lesson as to how a Democrat should handle a cable news slot.

The segment centered around the sick signs on display at yesterday’s idiots march on Washington but Markos implied, correctly, that right wing thug Tancredo was a chickenhawk.

Denial of Service humor

Yesterday evening the Daily Kos website was hit by a Denial of Service (DoS) attack. This is where an idiot or group of idiots set something in motion that causes a server to get so many hits by creating bogus ones that it can’t keep up and crashes or grinds to a screeching halt. As far as nasty things that can be done to a website go this is a pain in the neck in the short term but normally not fatal. It is the Dick Cheney of web server attacks, lots of brute force and ignorance zero finesse or subtlety.
