MA Special Election – Instant Thoughts
Here are my initial, ill considered and unsubstantiated thoughts about yesterdays election.
The Bad:
Coakley was an abysmal candidate. Their is absolutely no excuse for the complacency that she showed. She may have received bad advice but that doesn’t matter, it was her candidacy. She now has to live with the consequences of her defeat and I suspect that won’t be pleasant.
Saying that, it is becoming apparent that Tim Keane is not an effective DNC Chair. Howard Dean had a definite plan for revitalizing the Democratic party and was an extremely effective organizer. The impression with Keane is one of drift.
Not many are saying this but I think that the media really does have to take a long hard look at itself. They are allowing fascism to flourish due to their insistence on covering everything as equal, a substantial well thought out position is given exactly the same weight as a wacko pulled out of someones rear end a minute before airtime. I am not talking about Fox News here – they are a known quantity and people make the required allowances, The networks and especially CNN are the big offenders.

Why did Retired General Snipe at Haiti Response?
Some sniping about the Administration’s response to the aftermath of the Haiti Earthquake from retired general Russel Honore.Honore was the all action hero who went into New Orleans post Katrina and post GOP total screw up. His appointment was accompanied by a PR blitz of huge proportions.
“The next morning after the earthquake, as a military man of 37 years service, I assumed … there would be airplanes delivering aid, not troops, but aid,” said retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honore, who coordinated military operations after disaster struck the U.S. Gulf Coast in 2005. “What we saw instead was discussion about, ‘Well we’ve got to send an assessment team in to see what the needs are.’ And anytime I hear that, my head turns red.”

Sue Myrick R-NC – A Bachmann Republican
Michelle Bachmann is getting some pretty stiff competition for her Batshit Crazy Person of the US House title. A Republican/Teabagger, Rep. Sue Myrick (R-NC), who has flown largely under the radar is now mounting a serious challenge via the Youtube. Like Bachmann, she sees terrorists, specifically Muslim terrorists everywhere. Just to inspire a little extras confidence she is on the House intelligence committee.
TPM has a good article that provides background and the Bachmann wannabee’s future video production plans here with both of her YouTube videos embedded.
Fed up with the mainstream media filter, Rep. Sue Myrick (R-NC) is taking her quest to inform Americans about the threat of jihad to the Internet — namely, YouTube — in a new weekly terror news video series that will be featured on her congressional Web site.
The first two episodes — “Beyond Terrorism -The Whole Story” and “Fort Hood – What You’re Not Hearing” — are presented in a news magazine format, with Myrick speaking in front of a grey screen, flanked by an American flag and a plant. In the Fort Hood episode, Myrick “interviews” authors like Walid Phares of the conservative Foundation for Defense of Democracies (while she asks them direct questions, Myrick does not seem to actually be in the room with her interlocutors)

Parker Griffith – GOP Attack Ads Salvaged
This is to good to pass up. Rep Parker Griffin (Alabama) has just switched parites and is now a Republican. The GOP ran some really scathing attack ads against Griffin, accusing him of making money off of cancer sufferers.
Someone pulled these ads from YouTube but TPM managed to set them up on their own account. Here is one of them. Apparently the GOP used to think that he was financially screwing cancer patients.
Even by the normal thuggish standards set by GOP attack ads this one is brutal.
UPDATE: This story is now on the Daily Kos front page courtesy of BarbinMD. Bet that Griffin and his new paymasters are wishing that this would all go away.

GOP Eating it’s Own Dept
Palin not pure enough for some of the anti-choicers.
The RWNJs are going to destroy themselves before 2010 let alone 2012. If I were a Republican interested in high office I would be running towards the center as fast as my little legs would carry me.
Great fun for us in the bleachers.
Opening that rift to the right, a coalition of pro-life organizations including Colorado RTL, Human Life International, Operation Rescue National / OSA, American Life League, and the founders of American RTL, published full-page newspaper ads addressed to Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family requesting help to restore truth and integrity to the pro-life movement. Pro-lifers can find reports on Dr. Dobson, Mitt Romney, Alan Keyes, George W. Bush, and many other leaders at ProlifeProfiles.com.
“Sarah Palin has presidential ambition, but she’ll have to get serious about protecting the innocent,” said Birkey, “because this time around, there’s a personhood movement that will expose the pro-abortion record of pretend pro-life candidates.
