Obama – Has the Health Industry Bought Every Chair?
Now that the Senate version of the healthcare reform bill has passed it is on to merging it with the House version. Obama is on record as saying that he will now become more involved. Less clear is exactly how he will become involved. My money is on his chosen role being that of mediator, pushing the bill towards final passage with little regard to what is in it. Anyone who expects him to suddenly start taking the progressive side is in my view way to optimistic. I hope I am wrong.
In the meantime this should serve as a reminder to the Whitehouse as these are Obama’s own words and if nothing else he should be reminded of these by the traditional media. Not holding my breath though as this would involve reporters actually doing some prep, like in the good old days. It is the meat of a very short piece by Arianna Huffington:

Billions for the Banks Squat for the People
This is nice:
NEW YORK (Reuters) – The U.S. government “quietly” agreed not to collect billions of dollars in potential taxes from Citigroup Inc as part of its deal to allow the bank to repay its taxpayer bailout, The Washington Post reported.
Talking Points Memo commenting on Washington Post Article
This administration has quietly handed over billions to those friendly people from Citibank. Thats billions with a “b” and apparently this deal applies to the other banks involved in the bailout.
So, the Administration which de facto gave the order for the Senate Democrats to continue gutting health care reform* quietly shunts a gift of billions to the banks.
Can this get any worse?
and
Are the Dems trying to throw away the 2010 and 2012 elections?
*There is no other interpretation that can be put on Obama’s instruction to Reid to cave to Leiberman.

US News Media Embarrasses itself
and Obama schools them albeit very gently
Kudos to Think Progress for picking up on this:
In a little-noticed aside during last week’s jobs forum, President Obama criticized the media for focusing on trivial issues, specifically targeting some in the White House press corps who interviewed him during his trip to China. “Not one of them asked me about Asia. Not one of them asked me about the economy,” Obama said. “I was asked several times about had I read Sarah Palin’s book.” Obama laughed. “True!”

Obama Should be Drawing Down in Afghanistan
Opinion – (even more so than usual)
A quick thought about Afghanistan and Obama’s decision to ramp up the troop numbers.
Obama was very much for the Afghanistan war during his election campaign. Is it possible that the reason he was so pro this campaign was to provide a foil for his anti Iraq war stance?
This way he could oppose a deeply unpopular war (Iraq) but still appear strong on National Security by taking an extremely hawkish position re Afghanistan.
We all know that, to stand a chance of winning the US Presidency one must show a definite willingness if not pleasure at the thought of killing foreigners and blowing up their stuff. Yep, the extreme right, especially the neocons have poisoned the well that much.

Psalm 109:8 Update
This was the Psalm reference that the clever little teabaggers were displayin’
and this is what the verse actually says.
May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership.
Psalm 109:8
This and the subsequent verses make the intent of this nasty piece of political correctness quite clear.
Seen as my post on this topic is currently getting more hits than any other on this blog I figured that an update was in order.
first, a couple of interesting aside, for SEO geeks at any rate. I titled the post Psalm 108:9 which, of course, is wrong. It should read Psalm 109:8 which means that I was getting all the traffic from people who also got it wrong when entering it in the Google, Yahoo or AOL search box. Question: would I have got more hits with a correct spelling- Probably not.
