The Obama Japan Bow – please make it stop!
Looks like the LA Times is slumming it with the teabaggers today – a lengthy article on the Obama bow in Japan. The Baggers have been up in arms about this for the last few days as it is much more politically correct than yelling “The president is black” at the top of their lungs.

A truly awful piece of journalism perhaps best summed up by this breathless update:
UPDATES: 12:22 p.m. A brief news video has been added below, showing the greeting in this photograph. Contrary to some claims, the video shows no reciprocal bow by the emperor, who traditionally bows to no one. And we’ve added a file photo from 2007 of Vice President Dick Cheney greeting the Japanese Emperor at the same residence in a different fashion.)
How low will the new American president go for the world’s royalty?
The author, Andrew Malcolm, seems to specialize in this type of drivel.
Here, just for a laugh are a couple of the readers comments attached to the article:

I have one small request for our teabagging friends – please don’t self destruct until at least the mid terms are firmly in the bag for the Dems.

Who exactly were the Teabaggers?
Probably the best piece written anywhere about exactly who the Teabaggers are. The author is Devilstower at Daily Kos.
This wasn’t a tax protest or a conservative movement, it was the semi-regular Gathering of the Disaffected. Were they following a script first proposed by Rick Santelli with edits by Glenn Beck? Mostly. Were they shouting slogans from the Constitution Party? Yes. With a sprinkling of talking points for the Chamber of Commerce. They read any script put in front of them, cheered every speaker to take the stage. They swallowed up Campaign for Liberty and the John Birch Society with equal relish. Anyone who told them that The World is Not Right, Damn It and You’re Not Getting A Fair Shake was welcome.
The participants were beyond normal politics, they do not have a cohesive political views just a set of often contradictory bunch of thoughts that they have never attempted to connect. Walking talking breathing cognitive dissonance.
Like the folks who backed Perot, the baggies are not Republicans. The signs there were a mixture of libertarian and populist, corporatist and anarchist, simply unhappy and deeply disturbed. Taxes were far from the only concern — they weren’t even the primary concern. They were simply upset, and momentarily excited to share that unhappiness with others, even if those others didn’t care one whit about the cause of their unhappiness.
They may not be Republicans but they are now just about all the Republicans have got. There is no longer a moderate Republican rump. The vast majority of them call Obama Barry, Love them some Palin and think that Beck is pretty much OK.

Some photographs of the Valparaiso Teabag palooza
In all fairness it all seemed pretty good natured, standard right wing type stuff, everything is the fault of Democrats from the economy to the pimple on Grandma’s butt. The signage, while being unintentionally funny didn’t rise to the level of hate seen elesewhere.
I would put the number of protesters at 150 tops but never was much good at estimating numbers.
