 Happy Demise of the Washington Times

The Washington Times is shedding 40 jobs over the next couple of months

On an individual level this type of notice is tough, working and not knowing whether your name is on the list is hard as are the pressures of being unemployed at any time let alone in this economy. On a more macro level this is potentially very good news, the Washington Times is a rag that pushes an agenda by any means necessary. sure that is by no means unusual, I push an agenda here every day of the week.

Racism in the Washington Times This is…

Racism in the Washington Times

This is a truly appalling piece of hackery:

By;
Wesley Pruden
editor in chief emeritus: Washington Times

Pruden won something called the H.L. Mencken Prize (his only award as far as I can tell). That this prize is named after a racist and sexist comes as no great surprise:

The Sioux publisher of the Lakota Times said today he has returned the H.L. Mencken Writing Award he won in 1985 because of racist and sexist remarks in Mencken’s recently published diaries.

“I feel very strongly that everything that I have fought for in the last 20 years to try and improve race relations. . . . It just wouldn’t wash if I . . . kept an award from a person that has attitudes that are so bigoted,” said Tim Giago, a member of the Oglala Sioux tribe.

Snippet from Pruden’s Washington Post piece:

But Mr. Obama, unlike his predecessors, likely knows no better, and many of those around him, true children of the grungy ’60s, are contemptuous of custom. Cutting America down to size is what attracts them to “hope” for “change.” It’s no fault of the president that he has no natural instinct or blood impulse for what the America of “the 57 states” is about. He was sired by a Kenyan father, born to a mother attracted to men of the Third World and reared by grandparents in Hawaii, a paradise far from the American mainstream.

Ugh!

Lots of detail about Pruden’s segregationist background and neo-confederacy sympathies. This one isa real eye opener.

Washington Times in Trouble? – Hope so

This story warmed the cockles of my heart (whatever that means). The Washington Times is an extreme right wing rag owned paper espousing an extreme right wing agenda. My reaction to such an organization in deep trouble would normally be along the lines of so what but this is a little different.
